CHRISTUS Health announced today the expansion of compassionate and high-quality health care to the Henderson community with the planned development of a new, stand-alone emergency center.

A groundbreaking celebration is scheduled for April 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the 7-acre site, immediately south of Wylie Elementary School on Highway 259. “We are passionate about increasing access to health care for patients across East Texas,” said Chris Glenney, senior vice president for group operations, CHRISTUS Northeast Texas. “Henderson is a key area for growth in East Texas, and we know there is a need for patients to access the exceptional health care we provide.”

The expansion announcement is the third this year for CHRISTUS Health in East Texas as it continues to grow its health care footprint in the region. The not-for-profit system also announced building plans last month in Mount Pleasant and Palestine.

The 12,500 square-foot facility will feature around-the-clock emergency services, including 17 total beds, 13 exam rooms, four triage rooms, state-of-the-art full-service imaging and onsite laboratory services. Additionally, the facility site is designed for easy access and future development.

Approximately 40 associates will staff the facility, including board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses who specialize in serving the emergent needs of patients suffering from minor illnesses, urgent health conditions, broken bones or more serious injury and illness.

The emergency center is in addition to the CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic location on Zeid Boulevard in serving the city of Henderson, Rusk County, and surrounding communities.

“CHRISTUS has been blessed to serve Henderson for a number of years now, and this is a great way for us to continue to extend our health care mission to the community,” said Todd Hancock, president and CEO of CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System, which will oversee and operate the emergency center. “Patients will be comforted to know the new CHRISTUS emergency center is backed by the resources, staff, and technology of a full-service hospital that can meet their needs should their condition require the next level of care.”

In recent years, CHRISTUS Health has expanded patient access in the Northeast Texas communities of Athens, Atlanta, Canton, Gladewater, Kilgore, Lindale, Longview, Marshall, Mount Pleasant, Palestine, Sulphur Springs, Texarkana, Tyler, and Winnsboro. The project is scheduled to start construction in late spring a completion date toward the second half of 2025, Hancock said.
